The container crew lounge has made it a reality. COSCO SHIPPING Development’s subsidiary, Shanghai Universal Qidong Container Factory, was commissioned by Hainan Harbor & Shipping Holding Co., Ltd. to build the 【Xinhai Ferry Crew Lounge】 using 30 customized containers. The lounge provides a cozy resting spot for crew members shuttling across the strait, helping ensure smooth waterway operations during the Spring Festival travel season. A cup of hot tea, a warm meal, and a comfortable bed give these hardworking crew members—a vital link in strait transportation—a real sense of care and comfort during their brief breaks.

The dedicated crew lounge spans 920 square meters and features a two-level design made from 30 customized container units across six specifications. Built to high structural standards with thermal insulation, the containers provide excellent wind resistance, seismic stability, and corrosion protection—ready for Hainan’s heat, humidity, and typhoon-prone climate. It even withstood the full force of Super Typhoon Yagi, standing firm at the port and quietly safeguarding every crew rest.

Take a look inside—what does it look like? Inside, the lounge is fully equipped: First Floor: Functional spaces including a rest zone, dining area, showers, and restrooms. Second Floor: A tranquil sleeping and leisure area, allowing crew members on short berths to rest fully and recharge, ensuring they return to duty refreshed and ready for each voyage.
