From October 10–12, the 2025 China International Battery Application Conference and the 3rd China International New Energy Storage Development
Summit themed “Unbounded Energy · Empowering the Future with Chips,”
took place in Shenzhen. Shanghai Universal, a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING
Development, was invited to exhibit at the event. The company actively engaged in high-level technical
exchanges, and showcased its latest advancements and engineering
capabilities in energy storage equipment.
At the Ship Electrification Forum, Shanghai Universal delivered a keynote titled “Design and Practical Exploration of Marine
Containerized Mobile Power Supplies.” The presentation covered the company’s standardization work,
key technologies, and risk control measures across the full lifecycle of design, manufacturing, and operation— drawing strong attention from experts and industry peers.
Driving Growth
Across the Energy Storage Supply Chain Since entering the energy storage battery enclosure market in
2022, Shanghai Universal has achieved three consecutive years of
rapid growth in both production capacity and global market reach, building what it proudly calls “the strongest armor” for next-generation energy storage systems. The company has been honored twice at the China International
Energy Storage Conference & Exhibition and received an award at the 7th Central SOE Quality Control
Circle Competition. Mobile Power for
Ships A standout achievement from Shanghai Universal’s R&D
efforts is its contribution to the 700 TEU battery-powered container vessel
launched in 2024. The ship’s battery modules were fully designed and engineered
by the company as part of its independent mobile power system project. To date, the 48 battery units developed by Shanghai Universal have successfully supported 63 round-trip voyages, delivering an estimated 2,300 tons of carbon emissions
reduction compared to traditional fuel-powered vessels. These operations have provided valuable real-world performance
data and maintenance insights, laying a strong foundation for ongoing product upgrades, safety standardization, and lifecycle optimization. Pushing the
Boundaries of Energy Storage As China advances its national energy transition, COSCO SHIPPING Development remains committed to investing in
R&D and driving collaborative innovation across the energy storage
value chain. The company is developing a containerized energy storage
system defined by high capacity, superior safety, exceptional
reliability, lightweight design, and cost efficiency. Shanghai Universal is also expanding the application scope of
its containerized systems across electric vessels, port energy storage hubs, and
renewable energy integration, delivering replicable, scalable, and sustainable green power
solutions that continue to create long-term value for customers and
partners. Through these initiatives, COSCO SHIPPING Development
demonstrates the commitment of central state-owned enterprises to advancing
China’s “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality” goals. The China International Battery Application Conference, hosted
by the China Battery Industry Association, serves as a global platform for
advancing collaboration in battery technology and applications. The event
highlights cutting-edge innovations across sectors such as new energy
storage, electric ships, electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL)
aircraft, heavy-duty electric trucks, and specialized engineering
vehicles—accelerating the green transformation of industry and society
worldwide. |
