Recently, Shanghai Universal Logistics Equipment Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Shanghai Universal"), a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING Development under the COSCO SHIPPING Group, was invited to participate in the "ESG Lecture Hall" program by the Financial Program Center of China Media Group. Under the theme "The Magical Box on the Plateau," she vividly shared Shanghai Universal's remarkable initiative of supporting the construction of Labju No.1 Primary School in Luolong County, Changdu, Xizang, using shipping containers as part of their targeted assistance program. This assistance story fully demonstrates how Shanghai Universal, upholding the people-centric philosophy of compassion, integrates green commitments, technology for good, and the responsibility of a central enterprise with rural revitalization. Through intelligent solutions, it successfully overcame the triple severe challenges of "extreme temperature fluctuations," "intense ultraviolet radiation," and "thin oxygen" inherent to aid projects on the high-altitude plateau.
For the insulation challenge: Containers were transformed into "spacesuits" that lock in warmth
For the earthquake resistance challenge: "Steel building blocks" were assembled on the snowy plateau
For the waterproofing challenge: The "Dayu's flood control" feat was replicated on the plateau
In the late autumn of 2024, a "blue long train" carrying 30 modular containers journeyed over 4,000 kilometers across mountains and rivers — departing from Jinzhou, Liaoning, and winding along National Highway G349 into Xizang — before finally being transformed into the "Zhixiang Pavilion" cafeteria for children at a school situated 4,046 meters above sea level.
This is no ordinary construction project, but a journey of love across mountains and seas—a tender ode penned by a central enterprise with its steel-clad resolve. Currently, the second phase of Shanghai Universal's container aid project for Xizang—the staff dormitory building in Yuxi Township, Xizang—and the four sets of cultural tourism stations along National Highway 349 have been transported to Xizang and are undergoing construction and installation.
